Raw water strainer, 25 mm
Installation of a raw water strainer
Installing a raw water strainer in the engine's raw water intake line is highly recommended. The strainer removes debris and other contaminants carried by seawater or freshwater, helping to protect the rubber impeller in the raw water pump and prevent the heat exchanger tubes from becoming clogged. This ensures efficient cooling and helps prevent the engine from overheating.
For best results, the raw water strainer should be installed above the vessel's waterline. This allows the strainer to be inspected and cleaned without having to close the seacock. During winterization, with the seacock closed, the strainer lid can be removed to easily introduce an antifreeze solution into the raw water cooling circuit, protecting the system during the winter months.
